What is your cast role or crew position in Disney’s NEWSIES? I play Crutchie and I’m on sound crew.
What is your favorite Disney’s NEWSIES quote, song or scene — and why? “Once and For All” is definitely my favorite scene and song. I’m a huge music geek and the way the harmonies and dissonances work in the song and mesh together is incredible. The lyrics are so moving and have such a compelling message. The song makes me feel so empowered and it honestly gives me chills every time I hear it.
How many Gibson Southern Theatre productions (including Disney’s NEWSIES) have you been a part of while in high school? I have been a part of 7 productions; Vaudeville: Deck The Halls, Sister Act, Vaudeville: Muppets Take Over, Twelve Angry Jurors, Rodgers and Hammerstien’s Cinderella, Vaudeville: Under The Big Top, and 21 Chump Street.
What is your favorite role, act, or show that you have been a part of in high school? My favorite role is definitely Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act. She had such a quirky, relatable personality and she was undoubtedly the most challenging vocal role I’ve been casted for.
Do you have a favorite story from your time spent in theatre? My favorite and most memorable story is during Cinderella. It was opening night and I was offstage in the dressing room to look for a prop for the next scene. I noticed that my phone was dead and I asked the girls in the room if anybody had an iPhone charger. Little did I know, my mic was still hot and you could hear me throughout the auditorium. I will never live that down.
What are your plans after high school? My plans for after high school are to finish my undergraduate in biology at IUPUI and then go to med school to become a family physician.
What words of advice do you have for those thinking about joining Gibson Southern Theatre? You will not regret it! Theatre is so unique in the sense that everyone has a place and everyone has a job. Gibson Southern Theatre is such a beautiful community that tells amazing stories. Don’t wait! We are waiting for you with open arms!
