This week’s MATILDA updates is written by senior Jazlynn Cates. Jazlynn is an ITS Member and is portraying the role of Mrs. Phelps in this season’s production of ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL.

Week-three of Matilda rehearsals kicked off the start of choreography for the dancers. With the help of our choreographer Loni Prater and her daughter, we were able to start working on the exciting and thrilling dance numbers that take place many times throughout the show. Seniors Sydney Goedde playing Mrs. Wormwood, and Jarrett Klusmier playing Rudolpho put on their dancing shoes and learned to salsa dance. The two worked with the rest of the dancers to develop the spicy routine to the song “Loud”. This is the first of many high action numbers.

On Thursday of last week, the cast got together for a recap and off book run off all the scenes that were learned in the previous weeks. The run was overall successful and it was very refreshing to see how much work was put in outside of rehearsal and how much progress has been made in the past 3 weeks. From a huge advancement in costumes and set, to the start of the blocks that will decorate the auditorium, we are extremely thrilled by the pace we are working. With that being said we are still in need of parents to help on Saturday mornings from 8-12. Any parents with tools, painting skills, sewing abilities, or even parents who just want to help in any way are more than welcome. We are also still looking for donations of cases of water for rehearsals, along with the donation of razor scooters! Please feel free to bring cases of water and scooters to Gibson Southern High School, or send them with a student. See you next week!
