After a week’s setback due to inclement weather, FOOTLOOSE is in full effect! This past week and weekend we have been hard at work to make up for any lost time from the winter storm – and it’s paying off! Taking on any production is a big deal – from the set, to the choreography, the backstage work and up to our last show. It’s hard work!
We started the process on Tuesday with our full read and sing-through. This is led by our music director, Mr. Hutchinson. The first step in the musical process is to read through the lines and sing the songs of the entire musical in the choir room. This is so that everyone in the cast has a chance to understand everything about the musical! Then each week our directors and student interns work together to pick 3-4 scenes that we will work on each week. This includes blocking, line reading, singing, and choreography!
Choreography is an essential part of a show – especially this season with the production Footloose. An important day happened on Saturday, it was our first full-cast choreography day! Our choreographer Loni worked with cast members from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM to teach and guide us the dances for our finales! Dancing is hard work, it takes hours of learning and perfecting, and choreography days help make it easier.
Another difficult and major part of a production is the set, and while dancers were hard at work upstairs – parents and volunteers worked hard on the stage to help bring the vision of Bomont to life. Building a set from scratch takes planning and patience as well as dedication. Even after just one day of work, the set is already coming together nicely! The first week of work is done, and I can’t imagine a better start to Gibson Southern’s Footloose!
