This week’s LITTLE MERMAID updates is written by junior Brooklyn Casburn. Brooklyn is an ITS Member and is portraying the role of Ariel in this season’s production of DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID.

Through work days, rehearsals, and lots of excitement, week 2 of DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID has gone by in a flash. The students are eager to keep working and perfecting their characters. Mrs. Kathy Parks (KP) has been working hard to help each person feel confident and in tune with their characters. The students are grateful to have her.

Though the department had some setbacks with snow on week 1, the cast worked hard to get caught up on their blocking and line memorization. At the work day on Saturday, many students got together to work with KP on their scenes. After working on a scene, the students loved to show Mr. Adam Bledsoe what they accomplished during their rehearsal. Senior Maura Kluesner, who plays scuttle, said, “Rehearsals are going so well. We have been able to get so much done because everyone wants to be here. It isn’t just a note on our resumes. We work hard because we love what we do and we love and respect each other. We are family.”

The dancers got to start their first dance on Wednesday night’s rehearsal. Senior Malorie Scheller sums up their excitement saying, “Dancers this week learned a super exciting number: Under the Sea! Our wonderful choreographer, Loni, taught the dancers their choreography at their first dance day. Everyone was ready to learn and worked hard. The dancers are very excited to learn more fun dances!” The full cast can not wait to learn this dance this coming week!

After another wonderful week the students are eager to continue week 3 of rehearsals. Don’t forget to mark your calendars to witness the magic of THE LITTLE MERMAID, with performances March 11-13, 2022. You can keep following the cast and crew adventures for the next eight weeks to witness the musical process and exciting behind-the-scenes events.
