Two Students Attend ITS State

This week’s MATILDA updates is written by senior Jazlynn Cates. Jazlynn is an ITS Member and is portraying the role of Mrs. Phelps in this season’s production of ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL.

This past weekend seniors River Epperson and Jazlynn Cates attended the 2020 International Thespian Society State Competition. Even though the regional show that troupe #5623 competed with a few months back did not advance to state, the two decided they still wanted to attend the conference.

The season has come to an end, but the memories will never be forgotten.

Gibson Southern Theatre closed their season with the 2016 ITS Banquet on April 24, 2016, a time to celebrate the season, welcome new members, and hear from our seniors one last time.

February 2014 ITS Meeting Minutes

The February 2014 ITS Troupe 5623 Meeting was held on Tuesday, February 4 in the GS Auditorium at 7:30 AM. The meeting was led by senior ITS president Jake Sellers.

Attendance was taken and a reminder of ITS fees being due was given. A list of members who still had not paid their fees was read aloud.

Those who were in The Marriage of Bette and Boo who participated at ITS State shared a little about their experience. Silver Creek invited Gibson Southern Theatre to see their show the first week in March. They will be doing the musical The READ MORE

January 2014 ITS Meeting Minutes

The January ITS meeting was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 9:30 AM in the GSHS Auditorium. The meeting was lead by Gibson Southern Theatre Director Adam Bledsoe.
First, attendance was taken. Every absence from an ITS meeting is counted as unexcused unless and email is received. After two absences, the ITS member in question will be put up for review of removal from the troupe.

December 2013 ITS Meeting Minutes

The December ITS meeting was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 7:30 AM in the GSHS Auditorium. The meeting was lead by Gibson Southern Theatre Director Adam Bledsoe.

First, attendance was taken. Then each of the two plays and one musical for Young Playwrights were introduced by the writers. Jake Sellers and Kolten Turner have been working on a musical. Alexis Kiesel and Madeline Cox have separately been working on plays. Auditions for all three will be held on December 16th both before and after school. Sellers performed a song from the musical for the troupe.

November 2013 ITS Meeting Minutes

The November ITS meeting was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 7:30 AM in the GSHS Auditorium. The meeting was lead by Gibson Southern Theatre Director Adam Bledsoe.

It was announced that the VIP room for “Vaudeville” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” will both be catered by R’z Cafe and Catering, a restaurant located in Fort Branch.

The main focus of the meeting was the upcoming trip to New York City planned for the Summer of 2014. The trip was recently approved by the school board for June 2-5, 2014. Those in attendance will fly … READ MORE

ITS Advances to State with “Bette and Boo”

Gibson Southern Theatre’s I.T.S. Troup #5623 competed at the regional level on October 26, 2013 with a 45 minute cutting of Christopher Durang’s “The Marriage of Bette and Boo”.  The conference was held at Madison Consolidated High School in Madison, IN.  Auditions date back to early September 2013 along with auditions for our spring musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

October 2013 ITS Meeting Minutes

The second ITS meeting of the year was held on Tuesday, October 1st, 2013, at 7:30 AM in the auditorium. Director Adam Bledsoe lead the meeting. Vaudeville 2013: Lost in London, The Marriage of Bette & Boo, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying auditions have all concluded and cast lists have been posted. Theatre club and show t-shirts will be sold for $10 each and can be ordered online all year long. These shirts will be available three days after purchase.

ITS Heading to 2013 State Conference

This is your chance to see a cutting of Gibson Southern Theatre’s Legally Blonde: The Musical one more time!  Come support Gibson Southern Theatre’s I.T.S. Troupe as they travel to the Indiana Thespian 2013 State Conference at Vincennes University this Friday January 25, 2013 at 9:45 PM EST (8:45 PM CST – “Fort Branch time”).

This past December 2012, Gibson Southern Theatre’s I.T.S. Troupe competed at the annual regional competition in Brown County, Indiana with an adaptation of the newly released hit Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Thespians Prepare for Regionals

Every year the International Thespian Society holds theatre performance competitions for high school students throughout the country. Schools in every state prepare a 30-minute cutting of a play or musical to perform for a committee of judges that grade them on acting, staging, and other categories. The competition begins at the regional level, then finalists advance on to state and even the national stage in Nebraska.

The Gibson Southern Theatre Department has been competing in the ITS competition for several years with much success, winning state in 2005 and 2008. And they’ve got high hopes for this year as well.… READ MORE

Gibson Southern Theatre celebrated the end of a great season with their 2012 I.T.S. Banquet on April 29, 2012.  With nearly 160 people in attendance, it was great to see support for our graduating seniors and new inductees.

Dracula Draws Attention at I.T.S. Regional Competitions


On Saturday, December 10th, Gibson Southern Theatre Department’s I.T.S. Troupe # 5623 performed its’ cutting of Dracula by John Mattera at I.T.S. Regional competition held at Brown County High School.  At regional competition, the piece performed by each troupe including the time used to set-up and strike, or take down, the set  must encompass less than 45 minutes. Fourteen very talented students were included in the cast, and the production team included Matt Hart, the Director and Thespian Sponsor, and nine students. The preparation for this performance began months ago, when Matt Hart chose this play to be performed … READ MORE
